Member of The North Probus Club

Rodney J Frances; born in Bloemfontein, in May 1940. Three quarters Lebanese and one quarter Afrikaans. Proudly South African. Educated at CBC (tried Two universities - not successful)

Spent from 1959 – 1971 owning and managing a BP Service and Filling Station Opened in 1966 and managed Bloemfonteins first fully licensed A’la Carte Restaurant till 1971. Moved via Johannesburg to Witbank. Started Witbank Distributors, a Manufacturers Representative and Distributing Co. servicing the Highveld region of Mpumalanga in 1972

Served on the Convent PTA for 5 yrs and on the Pretoria CBC PA. Served on the Witbank Chamber of Commerce for 12 yrs – two yrs as President

Joined Rotary in 1985 & was a Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Coalfields. Served every Year except one on the Board, TWICE as President. Elected as DGR in 1995. Nominated As A Paul Harris fellow in Sept 1988.

Started the Witbank Community Chest and served on the Board till 2006 Three terms as Chairman. Served on the National Board of the Community Chest two years as Vice Chairman. Started the Community Chest of Johnnesburg but could not on a part time basis raise the capital. Tried Cyril Ramaphosa, Tokyo Sexwale and the current Mayor Amos Mosando: the Community Chest was not part of their Agenda.

While in Rotary started the Project: The Greatest Train Race; Been running for 27yrs and 22000 Runners participated in 2013 Another Project: Heard at a Rotary Conf, from the Pretoria Rotary Clubs, about this organisation Called Probus and with the assistance of a Pretoria Rotarian started the Probus Club of Witbank in 1992.

Moved to Johannesburg in Oct 2007 was invited to join the Probus Club of the North. Served two year term as President, Joined the Association and served two years as Vice Chairman.
